Asus Laptop Right Click Is Not Working Issue

When right click does not work in an Asus laptop, most of the users think that their touchpad is defective. While this is not quite true, sometimes the right click doesn’t respond just because of the Windows or BIOS settings.

We will discuss about both hardware and software solutions to fix Asus’s laptop right-click. First, Try to fix the right-click functionality issue by windows settings and software issues. So, follow the instructions below to fix the right-click problems.

Right click has been switched as a primary button- 

When you right-click button is functioning as a primary (left) button. You have to check the touchpad settings. most probably, you have activated it as a primary button.

  1. Go to the settings page.
  2. Click on the accessibility. (if you are using the windows 10, you will see the devices option)
  3. Now press the Mouse option .
  4. Scroll down and click on the Mouse option available at the bottom.
  5. Select the left button as primary.

 

Enable the touchpad from the Windows 10 settings

Windows update or third-party application can disable touchpad from settings. You should check once to enable touchpad from via these steps:

For windows 10- 

  • Click on the start button then select settings.
  • A windows settings page will open. Click on Devices from there.
  • Open Mouse and touchpad from the left menu.
  • After clicking the mouse and touchpad you can see its options on the right screen.
  • Scroll down and click on Additional mouse options.
  • A new mouse property window will open on the screen.
  • Find the menu by name Device Settings or ELAN then click on it.
  • Find the option Enable Touchpad and checkmark on it.

For windows 11- 

  • Go to the settings.
  • Click on the accessibility.
  • Scroll down and click on the mouse option.
  • Now scroll down again and then click on the mouse pointer.
  • Enable the touchpad.

Check functions keys if Asus laptop right click is not working

Few laptops have a direct option to enable/ disable the touchpad through function keys. This short cut keys are made for the purpose to avoid the disturbance while typing. In ASUS laptops, generally a touchpad is found on the F6 or F9 Keys. so you should press these keys to enable or disable the touchpad.

Update touchpad driver

When touchpad drivers are missing some files or outdated, touchpad stops working on the ASUS laptop.

You should manually check the update of the touchpad driver. Follow the steps below to update the touchpad driver:

  • For Windows 10 or 11 users press the Windows logo key + X together and open the device manager.
  • For lower than Windows 10 versions press the Windows logo key + R. A run box will open on the screen. Type devmgmt.msc in the box and press ok.
  • Find the Mice and other pointing devices option and click on it to expand. (In windows 11, you will see under human interface devices)
  • Open your touchpad driver by clicking on it.
  • A driver tab will appear on the screen.
  • Click on the Driver tab from the menu and then Update Driver…
  • This will start searching for the driver updates. If there is any update available it will prompt before installing.

  • Open the device manger window again by running the devmgmt.msc command.
  • Click on the human touch interface.
  • Double click on the touchpad driver.
  • Click on the Driver menu tab and then Uninstall.
  • Once a Popup  box will appear on the screen.
  • Checkmark on Delete the driver software for this device and then click ok.
  • After removing the driver , reboot the computer.  the windows will automatically find and install the latest touchpad driver.

Reset the touchpad settings :

Functions of touchpad keys may change due to windows or software updates. You should check touchpad settings to  make it default.

  • Click on the Windows logo key and go to settings.
  • Open Devices from settings.
  • Choose touchpad from the right menu.
  • Scroll the window, and click on the reset button.
  • Restart your Asus laptop to apply the settings.

Reset Windows 10 if nothing could fix Asus laptop right click

Resetting Windows 10 is the last option to apply to any issue. It will restore your windows system to the factory default. We usually try this at last because by resetting the windows, you will lose all data & application.

This sounds a bit strange to hear, but externally connected devices can also prevent the function of the laptop. So, remove devices like pen drives, hard drives, memory cards, printers, CD/DVDs, and dongles. Further, restart the laptop and check whether it’s working or not.

You have to change the touchpad panel which uses for right or left click on the keyboard. However, every touchpad has two buttons with the touch gesture.

There is no proper solution if your touchpad has a hardware issue. You have to change its button or touch assembly. Before replacing it, you have to find the same touchpad with your laptop model number.

  • Pull out the old touchpad using a screwdriver.
  • Remove the data cable connected from the motherboard and touch panel.
  • Connect the data cable with the new touchpad and install it just like you have removed its old one.

Tip: There is one temporary solution to fix Asus Laptop Right Click Not Working problem. Further, you can connect an external USB mouse with your laptop. For a time being,  you can use its right-click for work.
