How To Fix DNS Problems On Linksys Router?

The Linksys routers are generally trusted for fluent internet connectivity. When you connect a device through Linksys wireless network, you will rarely face frequent disconnection or other types of issues related to the wireless network. 

However, some users may face DNS errors on their Device when they connect their computer or smartphone to the Linksys WIFI and try to go on google or any other website. Their browser won’t load the webpage and shows them a DNS server error. 

In the meantime, if they switch their Device on another network, they can quickly load the websites without any delay if you are also going through Linksys DNS server not responding issue. Here is the guide to fix apply it on your router & Device to access the internet.

How do I fix the DNS problem on my Linksys router? 

Power cycle the router and computer- 

When the Linksys router can’t connect to the internet, it keeps showing you the DNS issues on the computer. You need to power cycle the computer and networking equipment once. 

  • Power off the modem & Linksys wireless router. 
  • Shut down your computer. 
  • Wait for a minute. 
  • Now power on the modem first. 
  • Wait for 10 seconds and then turn on the Linksys wifi router. 
  • While the router and modem are rebooting, boot your computer as well.

Once you see the green or blue light on the Linksys router, let’s try to access any website on google. Let’s see whether it is working now or still showing DNS issues.

Assign the static DNS To the Router- 

Sometimes, the dynamic DNS server might not be responding on the Linksys router. That could be an issue from the ISP server or modem side. To fix that error, you have to assign the static DNS address to the router. Linksys router dns address not responding

  • Connect the computer to the Linksys router. 
  • Open the browser
  • Go to the 192.168.1.1 or Linksys router’s dashboard
  • Enter the username and password for the Linksys router. You will find it at the bottom of the router. 
  • Under the basic setup, Go to the DNS server section. 
  • Enter the DNS 1 as 8.8.8.8
  • Now Enter the DNS 2 as 8.8.4.4
  • Press the save settings button. 

Once the Linksys router saves the DNS settings successfully, you need to reboot the router and computer once. 

Flush the DNS on the computer- 

Sometimes, a Pc might be using the old DNS address from the cache settings, which is not in use anymore. That’s why you might face a DNS problem with the Linksys router.

To fix that error, you need to flush the DNS address on the computer and then revisit the same website. 

  • Connect the computer to the Linksys router. 
  • Start the command prompt in the admin mode. (Type cmd in the windows search -> Right-click on the command prompt ->press run as an administrator).
  • Type ipconfig /flushdns and press the enter button. 

Once you see the DNS has been flushed message successfully, you need to reboot the computer once. 

Fix the browser issues- 

When you face the DNS problem after flashing the DNS address, you should surf the internet from another browser that you don’t use regularly. If you are not getting the DNS-related errors over there, you need to fix these settings on the regular browser. 

  1. Clear the browsing data- Let’s clear the browsing history from the browser. 
  2. Delete the adblocker and other types of extensions – Sometimes, they might block the connection. So you need to remove all types of extensions from the browser. 
  3. Update the browser- An outdated browser can also cause DNS problems. You need to update them. 
  4. Reset the browser- If none of these steps works in fixing the browser issues. You need to reset the browser and then retry to reaccess the internet. 

Disable the antivirus/firewall connection- 

A couple of times, users are getting the Linksys router DNS problems because of the antivirus /firewall issues. 

So you need to turn off the antivirus/ firewall for 15 minutes and then retry to reaccess the internet. 

Also, if you are using any type of proxy or VPN application on your Device, you need to disable them. 

Assign a static DNS address to the computer- 

If you are still getting the DNS problems on the Linksys router, you must assign a Static DNS address to the computer. 

  1. Open the Run box. 
  2. Type NCPA.CPL and press the ok button. 
  3. Right-click on the ethernet adapter and click on the properties
  4. Select the IP4 address and then click on the Properties
  5. Now click on the use the following DNS server option.
  6. Enter the primary address as 8.8.8.8 and the secondary address as 8.8.4.4 
  7. Click on the ok or apply changes button. 

After assigning the ip address on the computer. You need to reboot the computer. 

Update the router firmware – 

When a router’s firmware is not up to date, you might have DNS problems on the Linksys router. To fix this, you will need to update the linksys router firmware.

  1. Download the firmware files from the Linksys website. 
  2. Open the Linksys router dashboard. 
  3. Click on the administration
  4. Press the firmware upgrade
  5. Choose the firmware file
  6. Click on the save settings. 

Factory Reset the Router- 

If you have tried the above instructions to fix the Linksys router DNS issues, it didn’t work for you. You can factory reset the Linksys router and then set it up again. 

  1. Open the Linksys admin dashboard
  2. Click on the administration
  3. Press the factory default tab. 
  4. Press the restore all settings button. 

Finally, Linksys router will erase all settings and go back to the factory settings. Now you can set up the Linksys router again. After that, connect your computer and try to connect the Device again. Let’s see whether you still see the DNS error.
